Common malignant skin lesions areQ basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. The nature of these cases mandates surgical excision. Additional treatment (radiation/ chemotherapy/ lymphatic glands resection) may apply in some cases, depending on protocol guidelines.
Early diagnosis is the cornerstone of the treatment of any skin lesions. For this reason, any emerging cutaneous and subcutaneous tumor and any change in the appearance of a pre existing nevus should be evaluated exclusively by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. Bleeding or colour changes in the surface of the lesion are an indication for immediate medical evaluation.
The surgical treatment of skin lesions begins with the complete excision with as pe guideline margins. With few exceptions, histopathologic examination (biopsy) of the resected lesion is necessary. Additional treatment and follow-up depends on the result of the histological examination. Especially in cases of malignant lesions, a postoperative follow-up schedule is mandatory and should be planned ahead.
